Community Song Circle

Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor and educator Anitra Brooks leads a one-hour singing experience in which participants use their voices to create extraordinary, improvisational, in-the-moment community music. Inspired by the teachings of Bobby McFerrin, Silvia Nakkach, John Beaulieu, David Darling and Layne Redmond, Brooks sees singing as a sacred, transformative act and believes that expressing the inherent musicality of the voice is a necessity. Brooks is a rare contralto whose voice ranges from tantalizingly ethereal to soulful and grounded. She also plays piano, metallophone, viola, saxophone, banjo and ukelele. She toured with the internationally known puppet and mask performers Big Nazo, and has opened for a range of artists, from James Brown to The Village People.
