Karim Nagi & Huzam

Traditional Arabic Trio

Saturday, August 16 - 3:00pm

Guilford Green, Stage 1

Nagi is an Egyptian musician, composer and ethnic dance artist specializing in the music and culture of the Arabic diaspora. His trio Huzam presents traditional Arabic instrumentation, dance and folklore to explore the question, “How do we define Arab and how can one understand Arabs through cultural and artistic output?” Through music, dance, language and costume, Nagi introduces audiences to Arab culture, its unity, diversity and evolution. An talkback follows the performance.

Karim Nagi: In performance and conversation, Nagi explores the diverse Christian, Muslim, Jewish and tribal roots of Arab music, dance, language and costume—providing a forum for understanding the breadth of Arab culture and for examining, interpreting, assessing and reflecting on common perceptions and stereotypes.
